Hi there! I’m Dr. Lewis.
With 23 years of experience as a psychotherapist working in various healthcare settings, I have helped many people with mental and behavioral health challenges related to chronic medical conditions. I have seen how mental health and physical health impact one another, and have helped many people work through the anxiety, trauma, and relationship stressors that often occur alongside managing a chronic health condition. Also, I have witnessed the workplace trauma and burnout that many healthcare providers experience, and the impact this has on their physical and mental health, as well as their relationships.
With a passion for helping both the healthcare consumer and provider, my mission is twofold: to help women living with a chronic medical condition and health-related anxiety, and support healthcare professionals with workplace trauma and burnout. My clinical approach is EMDR therapy, a specialized brain- and body-based psychotherapy, to reduce the anxiety and overwhelm often experienced after a life-altering diagnosis, medical trauma, and other adverse life events. I want my community to know that help is available to restore calm and confidence in the mind and body, and psychotherapy works.
I provide a creative and compassionate approach to psychotherapy. My therapeutic style is to go beyond only “talk therapy” and incorporate an approach that utilizes the brain and body (mind-body connection) to produce relief at a more rapid rate than “talk therapy” alone. I believe that psychotherapy should move beyond tears and tissues, and be a space for empowerment, awakening, and growth.
I am also a professor at Tulane University, and provide clinical supervision to social workers seeking licensure. I provide consultation and trainings to healthcare providers seeking to expand clinical acumen, and corporate organizations for program development and evaluation related to behavioral and public health initiatives. I also provide workshops to community groups seeking mental and behavioral health education and skills building.
When I’m not working with clients, students, or organizations, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, and traveling.
